Millbrook shows its spirit on Community Day

The Village of Millbrook’s annual Community Day attracted hundreds of villagers and residents of other nearby communities to Millbrook’s Franklin Avenue for a day-long celebration.

The celebration aims to showcase the best of what Millbrook has to offer. Local non-profit and civic organizations had information tables, businesses showed off their wares, local musicians performed throughout the afternoon and congregants of Central Baptist Church in Salt Point cooked up fried chicken, ribs and sweet potato fries throughout the afternoon.

One of the more popular attractions was a series of book signings and author readings, provided by Merritt Bookstore, on the lawn of the Millbrook Library.

Authors included Susanna Leonard Hill, Jennifer Berne, James Christopher Carroll, and Jenny Nelson. Also, illustrator Keith Bendis sketched throughout the event.

As we reported last week, local business Millbrook Farm and Garden held a competition during the event. The store performed a breed-identification test on its unofficial mascot, a mutt named Miley, and challenged guests to guess at least one of her breeds.

Miley is approximately 30% lhasa apso, and up to 20% Labrador, Maltese, Weimaraner and poodle. Only two people guessed correctly.

This year’s Community Day, sponsored by the Millbrook Business Association, was held under Saturday’s sunny skies, which attracted a large crowd to the village.
